Hire a Retail Apprentice in Huddersfield

Strong retail skills make your sales team an invaluable part of your business. With a great sales team in place, companies not only generate more revenue, but they can also enhance their brand image for long-term success. If your sales team is growing and it’s time to take on more staff, NLTG can help you hire a Retail Apprentice in Huddersfield who will learn and grow along with you!

An enthusiastic Retail Apprentice is an indispensable team member in a growing company. They are versatile and can play a huge range of roles depending on the nature of your firm’s value proposition. NLTG helps companies hire a Retail Apprentice in Huddersfield who can work as a Stockroom Assistant, Sales Assistant, Visual Merchandiser, Food Counter Assistant, or anywhere else that your customers need a professional, pleasant helping hand. They are able to fit seamlessly in with your existing sales team, learning directly from those with first-hand experience of your shop floor.

NLTG Retail Apprentices are eager to learn and sharpen their industry skills for a career in the sector. Unlike external candidates for a retail position, they are fresh to the business and can easily pick up stock handling, payment, customer service, and goods dispatching skills and do them exactly the way your firm needs them done. And in an age where technology plays a big role in the sales process, a young apprentice is usually very quick to learn the digital systems that support your company’s sales function.

Our apprentices are bright graduates, fresh from secondary school, who are searching for a chance to prove themselves in the workforce. They are ready for a career in the retail sector, and understand the value of real-world experience. All our NLTG apprentices will train in your existing premises, from your current staff, and they will learn by carrying out the specific tasks for the skills gap you’d like to fill!

As well as being economical hires, it’s possible to receive an additional government payment when you hire a Retail Apprentice in Huddersfield – on top of your apprenticeship funding. When taking on a 16-18 year old apprentice, most UK companies are entitled to a £1,000 bonus that is paid in 2 equal instalments – a thank you for helping the next generation get a head start in the workplace!

With NLTG, your company is also able to hire Glass Occupations, Business Administration, Business Improvement Techniques, Information Technology, Customer ServiceWarehouse and Logistics, Manufacturing, Furniture Occupations, Team Leading and Management, IT, or Catering and Hospitality apprentices with none of the fuss or expense of media advertising. We’ll help your team find a new staff member when you raise a vacancy on our webpage, so why not start today?

NLTG provide training in the Huddersfield area for your current employees

Upskilling is the competitive strategy of enhancing staff skills by developing them through training. Through upskilling programmes, they learn about new areas that are relevant to your company, making them more valuable to the firm. This workplace-based training also helps boost productivity, increase motivation, and improve job satisfaction for a happier, healthier organizational culture. A shop assistant, for example, may train their customer service skills to attain capabilities that prepare them for the role of sales team manager, and a Business Administration officer may learn the IT skills that allow them to support other departments.

NLTG offers workplace-based training for your existing staff through our apprenticeship pathways – by enrolling in an apprenticeship for which they’re eligible, your team can gain the knowledge, practical skills, and experience that your company requires. All without looking outside for new hires! Through one of our pathways, your company can grow its team, fill skills gaps, and improve staff retention overall with a more committed workforce.

With NLTG, there is no need for your staff to commute across town or fall behind from missed work days; rather, they’ll be able to try out new roles and take on fresh responsibilities as part of their development. At the end of the day, upskilling is a perfect way for your company to become more multi-skilled, allowing you to offer more services and create more value for customers.

What training do I need to provide?

You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

We will visit your premises every 4 to 6 weeks to help with the training and guide your apprentice through their programme.

Apprentices are employees of your company and you are responsible for paying your apprentice’s wage.  You must pay at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage and can find out more by clicking here.  The Apprenticeship minimum wage relates to apprentices aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 and above in the first year of their Apprenticeship.

For apprentices aged under 25, you may not need to pay National Insurance contributions during their training.  Find out more by clicking here.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.
