What is a Traineeship? A Traineeship is a stepping stone towards an Apprenticeship and a way to help you discover your future career path. It is a work placement with a company which provides you with the skills and experience you need to get an Apprenticeship. Alongside your high quality work placement, you will develop the vital skills that employers look for, and gain the knowledge and confidence to apply for jobs and secure an Apprenticeship.
Is a Traineeship right for me? If you are unsure as to what you want to do for a job, or if you feel you would prefer to try out an industry before jumping into a full-time Apprenticeship, then a Traineeship is the right route to get you started. If you feel you know what you want to do and an Apprenticeship is available, then that is the route to take, although it is worth bearing in mind that a Traineeship could help you by giving you basic knowledge of the industry before you start your Apprenticeship.
How long is a Traineeship? A Traineeship could be planned for a minimum of 8 weeks or up to a maximum of 24 weeks.
What is the age limit for a Traineeship? A Traineeship is for 16 – 24 year olds who: • do not have a first full Level 3 qualification. • have little or no work experience • have the potential to be ready for employment or an Apprenticeship within 6 months • if aged 19 – 24, are unemployed and in receipt of certain benefits. If you are aged 19 – 24, please talk to your local JobCentre Plus office who will discuss referrals to relevant training programmes.
What will I get paid? If you are doing a 5 day week Traineeship you will get paid an allowance of up to £50 per week. This is dependent on circumstance and attendance. This will be paid to you by NLTG.
Do I have to find a work placement for myself? No, NLTG Traineeships are usually just a work placement at one of our Apprenticeship vacancies. We have 100’s of vacancies for you to choose from so there is no need for you to find your own placement.
What happens if I decide to leave or don’t like the work placement? If you decide to leave and don’t want a Traineeship or Apprenticeship any more, then we will stop looking for positions for you. If you don’t like your work placement we will try our best to find you something else that is suitable and that you are comfortable with.
Is there any formal recognition of completing a Traineeship? It is not a certified course because you won’t have completed a qualification however, you can add to your CV that you have done a work experience placement. When you’ve completed the Traineeship you should be able to progress into an Apprenticeship, which will bring you a qualification and certification, and the skills needed for your future career.
Do you offer Traineeships in child care or fitness?
