NLTG can help you hire a Warehouse and Logistics Apprentice in Wigan

Is your Wigan company on the lookout for a new addition to your warehouse or distribution centre? If your firm is growing or seeking to expand, one of our NLTG Warehouse and Logistics apprentices can help you do this in a cost-effective way! At North Lancs Training Group, we provide support for our Level 2 or 3 Warehouse and Logistics apprentices while they learn and grow with your Wigan company. If you are hoping to boost the efficiency and productivity of your operations, an ambitious and driven new apprentice can easily learn the ropes by your side.

At NLTG, our Warehouse and Logistics apprentices are talented secondary school graduates, who have already fulfilled our basic competency levels for Maths and English. With your instruction, they will learn to operate special equipment, pack and unpack goods, and pay close attention to security and safety in the warehouse. Our tutors also provide support for them as they reinforce the knowledge and capabilities while learning for their national certificates and diplomas.

If you are tired of conventional hiring practices, our NLTG apprenticeship pathways are very streamlined and simple. Without needing to conduct tiring background checks, and vet external candidates, you can simply raise a vacancy at our NLTG webpage and get hiring right away. And, they’ll be learning at your premises, alongside you, so there is no need for you firm to shell out on travel costs. Then, if you choose an apprentice who is aged between 16 and 18, the UK government will also provide your Wigan organisation with a financial incentive bonus  payment of £1,000, paid in two equal installments. They will learn exactly how things are executed in your firm, including all the special techniques that your company uses, which can be a real asset if you later want to promote internally.

Last, but definitely not least, hiring an apprentice is often a brilliant way to boost your Wigan company’s engagement! When your team welcomes a keen, learning-oriented new hire, they have a chance to practice their teaching and mentoring capabilities, while passing on little tricks of the trade. Watching them learn and improve can be very motivating. You’ll also be letting your staff know that your business is doing well and that good things are in store for the future. It’s a great way to reduce staff turnover—coupled with the fact that our apprentices often make fitting long-term hires!

Whether you’re short on talented staff in the warehouse, or somewhere else in the firm, NLTG has an apprentice (or apprentices!) for you. We know that many Wigan companies provide a range of services and goods, which is why NLTG can provide you with an apprentice in many different areas. These include Furniture OccupationsBusiness Improvement Techniques, Glass Occupations, Business Administration, Information Technology, Retail, Catering and Hospitality, Customer Service, Warehouse and Logistics, General Manufacturing, and Team Leading and Management.

NLTG provide training in the Wigan area for your current employees

While there are so many instant benefits to be enjoyed on welcoming a new apprentice, it’s important to think for the long-term, too. That means it’s highly strategic to ensure your company is upskilling present staff regularly! Let’s face it, the skills that got your firm success in the first place may now not be cutting-edge anymore. But through one of our upskilling programmes, your staff can hone their capabilities, techniques, and knowledge in a very simple way.

That is, NLTG upskilling programmes allow your employees to enrol in an apprenticeship and learn on the job while at your workplace. They can dust off and sharpen any outdated skills or acquire completely different, new ones, depending on how the industry has changed. And because they’ll receive a qualification after completing their upskilling, the whole training process is great for team motivation! How will employing an apprentice benefit my company?

Employing an Apprentice can bring numerous benefits to your business including:

• increased productivity.

• increased employee satisfaction.

• increased loyalty and commitment.

• reduced staff turnover.

  • Apprentices will be trained to understand how your industry works, helping to ensure your future workforce is exactly the way you want it to be. They can generate new ideas and creativity to expand your business and are a cost-effective way of achieving a return on investment.

What training do I need to provide?

You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

We will visit your premises every 4 to 6 weeks to help with the training and guide your apprentice through their programme.

How much does it cost to employ an apprentice?

Apprentices are employees of your company and you are responsible for paying your apprentice’s wage.  You must pay at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage and can find out more by clicking here.  The Apprenticeship minimum wage relates to apprentices aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 and above in the first year of their Apprenticeship.

For apprentices aged under 25, you may not need to pay National Insurance contributions during their training.  Find out more by clicking here.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.

How are disciplinary procedures handled?

They are handled like any other employee’s, but NLTG are on hand to provide help and support if you feel it is necessary.

What funding and grants are available?

If your apprentice is aged:

• 16-18; or

• 19-24 and is a care leaver or has a Local Authority Education, Health & Care Plan

… you’ll receive a £1,000 incentive payment for each apprentice.

Payments will be made in two equal instalments; the first once the apprentice has been on programme for 3 months and the second after the apprentice has been on programme for 12 months.  (It may take up to 9 weeks after the incentive payment dates for funds to be processed and transferred).

Grants may also be available but the availability and requirements for these change on a regular basis so you are best speaking to us for up-to-date information.
