NLTG can help you hire a Retail Apprentice in Salford

If you’re in charge of hiring new talent for your Salford company, now is the time to consider the strategic growth advantages that your firm could enjoy by recruiting a new NLTG Retail apprentice.

It may be that you’re already aware of the positive impact that an apprentice can have on your business’ bottom line through reduced recruitment costs, decreased staff turnover, and enhanced productivity– if not, your firm may stand to gain considerably! A Level 2 NLTG Retail apprentice can add significant value at a fraction of the cost of an external hire by taking on a whole range of tasks while they work for your firm. From taking inventory and visual merchandising, to customer assistance and payment processing, these fresh secondary school graduates are eager to help your company improve its efficiency and profitability while they gain valuable work experience in your place of business. Because they will train for their Retail Certificates on your doorstep, there will be no need for your company to spend money or time on travel.

A fresh, eager new Retail apprentice can also be a welcome source of encouragement for your existing team, as hiring a new employee is often a positive sign that your company is growing. With all the new ideas and perspectives that new apprentices can contribute to a firm, it’s not surprising that they are often invited to stay on as part of the team long after their apprenticeships are complete and they have attained their qualifications.

Hiring new talent through an apprenticeship pathway gives your business a chance to enjoy significant savings by doing away with the lengthy, conventional advertising and recruitment process. This is one of the reasons why new apprentice hires are swiftly becoming a popular way for modern retail businesses to grow and expand in a financially sustainable way. Firstly, each and every Retail apprentice your Salford business hires is an extra helping hand from Day One, and second, your company will also be entitled to a £1,000 financial incentive simply for taking them onboard. On top of all this, the training costs of your new apprentice will often be covered by government funding, meaning that like many other UK apprentice employers nation-wide, your firm will be recouping the costs of your new hire in a considerably short period of time.

In addition to our dedicated Retail apprentices, NLTG also connects Salford employers with apprentices from the fields of Catering and Hospitality, General Manufacturing, Furniture Occupations, Business Administration, Business Improvement Techniques, Glass Occupations, Information Technology, Customer Service, Warehouse and Logistics, and Team Leading and Management. We have made it exceptionally easy for employers to raise an apprenticeship vacancy on the NLTG website so that your company can be training a new apprentice as soon as possible.

What training do I need to provide?

You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

We will visit your premises every 4 to 6 weeks to help with the training and guide your apprentice through their programme.

How much does it cost to employ an apprentice?

Apprentices are employees of your company and you are responsible for paying your apprentice’s wage.  You must pay at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage and can find out more by clicking here.  The Apprenticeship minimum wage relates to apprentices aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 and above in the first year of their Apprenticeship.

For apprentices aged under 25, you may not need to pay National Insurance contributions during their training.  Find out more by clicking here.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.

How are disciplinary procedures handled?

They are handled like any other employee’s, but NLTG are on hand to provide help and support if you feel it is necessary.

What funding and grants are available?

If your apprentice is aged:

• 16-18; or

• 19-24 and is a care leaver or has a Local Authority Education, Health & Care Plan

… you’ll receive a £1,000 incentive payment for each apprentice.

Payments will be made in two equal instalments; the first once the apprentice has been on programme for 3 months and the second after the apprentice has been on programme for 12 months.  (It may take up to 9 weeks after the incentive payment dates for funds to be processed and transferred).
