NLTG can help you hire a Retail apprentice in Liverpool

Finding new employees is a long and hard process, especially when you still have to deal with the day-to-day runnings of your business. It takes time to find potentially suitable candidates, not to mention it is expensive to create job site adverts and hire recruiters. This is particularly true for small businesses and it means that skill gaps can emerge that put you at a disadvantage and leave you under-resourced. However, it does not have to be this way! Hiring a retail apprentice in Liverpool is one of the best ways to beat these challenges and shape your future workforce in a positive way.

At NLTG, we can find you the ideal Liverpool-based candidates for your business. A retail apprentice can bring the enthusiasm, ambition and hunger, as well as the skills that you need to enhance your workforce and revitalise your business. A young apprentice can help your team to generate new and fresh ideas, bringing creativity. With their commitment and fresh outlook, retail apprenticeships become an asset to your workforce now and potential workers for your business in the future. We screen and choose all of the suitable candidates for you to ensure that you find the right person to join your team.

In fact, the majority of apprentices will remain with the company after their apprenticeship has been completed because they become a valued member of the team and show loyalty towards the business. This will mean that your staff turnover stays low and you will not have to look for another employee again.

An additional benefit of choosing a retail apprentice is that your business can receive £1,000 government funding for each apprentice that you recruit. Not only will this help towards their salary, but it will also be money gained that could have been lost on advertising and recruitment costs. So, you not only gain a valuable member of your team, but you also gain an incentive!

One of the great things is that all of the training for a retail apprenticeship with NLTG is completed on your business premises. There are no day releases to college needed for training and all of the focus is ‘on the job’ experience, which means there is no disruptions and you can maximum the skills that the apprentices have. All of our tutors at NLTG are experts in the industry, which means that apprentices that are trained on your business premises will be the best they can be for your business. So, why not find out more?

What training do I need to provide?

You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

Apprentices are employees of your company and you are responsible for paying your apprentice’s wage.  You must pay at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage and can find out more by clicking here.  The Apprenticeship minimum wage relates to apprentices aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 and above in the first year of their Apprenticeship.

For apprentices aged under 25, you may not need to pay National Insurance contributions during their training.  Find out more by clicking here.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.
