NLTG can help you hire a Manufacturing apprentice in Manchester

Has your Manchester organisation considered hiring a Manufacturing apprentice? In the UK labour market today, apprentices are playing an increasingly important and valuable role as employers grow quickly aware the advantages that fresh and hungry apprentice recruits can bring to their firms.

If your Manchester organisation has any manufacturing aspect to it whatsoever, it’s often a much more strategic choice to recruit a new apprentice than it is to hire an external candidate. NLTG provides Level 2 Manufacturing apprentices who are keen and quick to learn on the job in your workplace, while acquiring the necessary skills for a successful career in the industry. It’s a simple fact that Manufacturing apprentice recruits are able to start working immediately and assist your firm by taking on tasks related to use of tools, factory equipment and upholding manufacturing quality standards. Because many companies have quickly recognised this, Manufacturing apprentices are fast becoming a popular way to boost company productivity whilst giving a young recruit a chance to experience the job first-hand.

As with many of the NLTG apprentices who have been hired by Manchester firms, it’s not uncommon for apprentice recruits to be exceptionally devoted and develop a fierce loyalty towards the employers that train them. In many instances, our case studies show that our NLTG apprentices frequently go on to pursue further qualifications and rise to higher-level positions within their employers’ companies. This means that your company is able to save on recruiting costs while reducing employee turnover.

Happily, it’s becoming rapidly less and less common to hear the myth that hiring employees via an apprenticeship pathway is expensive. In many instances, the government is in fact able to assist your company by covering some, if not all, of the relevant training expenses involved in hiring a Manufacturing apprentice. Beside the fact that your Manchester firm will be enjoying an extra set of hands around the workplace, it’s usually the case that companies receive a £1,000 financial incentive for each apprentice recruited!

The cost-efficiency benefits of hiring an NLTG Manufacturing apprentice rather than a new, external recruit may often extend even further than funding and incentives, in fact. Because your Manufacturing apprentice will be training in your Manchester place of work, hiring via the apprenticeship route means that your firm is able to eliminate the cost and time investments of travel. Not much to complain about there!

NLTG boasts a wide range of apprenticeship programmes to flexibly suit the business needs of your Manchester firm. Amongst these, our apprentice are able to assist you in fields including: Catering and Hospitality, Customer Service, Retail, Business Administration, Furniture Occupations, Business Improvement Techniques, Glass Occupations, Information Technology, Warehouse and Logistics, and Team Leading and Management. • Apprentices will be trained to understand how your industry works, helping to ensure your future workforce is exactly the way you want it to be. They can generate new ideas and creativity to expand your business and are a cost-effective way of achieving a return on investment.

What training do I need to provide?

You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

We will visit your premises every 4 to 6 weeks to help with the training and guide your apprentice through their programme.

How much does it cost to employ an apprentice?

Apprentices are employees of your company and you are responsible for paying your apprentice’s wage.  You must pay at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage and can find out more by clicking here.  The Apprenticeship minimum wage relates to apprentices aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 and above in the first year of their Apprenticeship.

For apprentices aged under 25, you may not need to pay National Insurance contributions during their training.  Find out more by clicking here.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.
