NLTG can help you hire a Furniture Occupations apprentice in Manchester

If your Manchester organisation involved in furniture repair or construction, upholstery, polishing and cutting, sewing, or a related industry field, your company may benefit significantly from recruiting a capable new Furniture Occupations apprentice. An extra helpful assistant around the workshop or office can be a fitting way to start improving your productivity instantly, while giving a new recruit the chance to work towards a recognised qualification in the field.

If you own your Manchester organisation or are in charge of its business strategy, then you alone will know exactly what is required for it to succeed. An NLTG Furniture Occupations apprentice is able to train in precisely the skills that are required to take your company forward, and will learn the unique processes and procedures to help it grow. Because Furniture Occupations apprentice recruits do not need to ‘unlearn’ any ingrained practices in the way that external industry candidates may need to, they are often very quick to learn and can start contributing to your firm’s productivity in no time.

Alongside the productivity benefits that Manchester businesses have gained from onboarding fresh apprentice recruits, it’s also common for an enthusiastic, eager-to-learn apprentice recruit to be a source of valuable new ideas in your workplace. A Furniture Occupations apprentice can offer an original perspective on how things are done, and often this can be a great boost to overall company morale. From day one your new apprentice recruit will also be a loyal employee. Very often, our existing Manchester employers find that their dedicated apprentices continue to gain new skills and contribute at a higher level as they finish their qualifications and move on up in the firm.

Hiring a new Furniture Occupations apprentice is far from a costly recruitment strategy. In fact, many Manchester employers are currently receiving government funding to cover the cost of training their new apprentice recruits. Whilst your apprentice is working at your company, they will be training on your premises, meaning your firm is also able to eliminate completely the costs that are associated with travel and off-site training. As a further benefit, recruiting an NLTG Furniture Occupations apprentice also entitles your Manchester organisation to receive a £1,000 financial incentive bonus. This applies for each apprentice you recruit!

Besides our Furniture Occupations apprentices, the NLTG is also proud to offer a range of keen and able apprentices for Manchester firms that operate in industries such as: Catering and Hospitality, Customer Service, Retail, General Manufacturing, Business Administration, Glass Occupations, Business Improvement Techniques, Information Technology, Team Leading and Management, and Warehouse and Logistics. Overall quality of service delivery can be considerably improved, while costing your organisation nothing in terms of travel and time spent training off-site.

What training do I need to provide?

You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

We will visit your premises every 4 to 6 weeks to help with the training and guide your apprentice through their programme.

How much does it cost to employ an apprentice?

Apprentices are employees of your company and you are responsible for paying your apprentice’s wage.  You must pay at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage and can find out more by clicking here.  The Apprenticeship minimum wage relates to apprentices aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 and above in the first year of their Apprenticeship.

For apprentices aged under 25, you may not need to pay National Insurance contributions during their training.  Find out more by clicking here.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.

How are disciplinary procedures handled?

They are handled like any other employee’s, but NLTG are on hand to provide help and support if you feel it is necessary.
