NLTG can help you hire a Warehouse and Logistics Apprentice in Stockport

If your Stockport company stores products, transports, distributes any goods for sale, or keeps track of any inventory, a Warehouse and Logistics apprentice may be exactly what you need. Every business needs to ensure its operations are running smoothly, and NLTG offers Level 2 or 3 Warehouse and Logistics apprentices who can help you achieve exactly that!

Our NLTG Warehouse and Logistics apprentices train in your workplace and are capable employees from Day One. By working in your Stockport business, they are able to gain the industry experience that they’re keen to acquire and help you achieve business goals such as increased efficiency and safer goods handling. All the while, without requiring any investment on your firm’s part for travel!

The most quickly noticeable benefit that your Stockport firm will notice when you hire an apprentice is a productivity boost! Every apprentice you hire, from our Warehouse and Logistics apprentices to recruits in other fields, is an extra set of helping hands around the company. It’s no surprise, then, that 78% of UK apprentice employers have noticed improved productivity.

Improving staff retention is another benefit that UK employers enjoy when they hire an apprentice. If staff turnover is a concern for you or your business, it’s worth knowing that a large proportion of apprentices remain with their employers for a considerably longer time than non-apprentices. Larger firms across the UK are swiftly realising the advantages of decreasing employee turnover rates by recruiting through apprenticeship pathways. In fact, many are setting high targets for apprentice recruitment over the coming years. Hiring a Stockport NLTG apprentice can be a great way to ensure your talent stays in the firm for the long haul.

If enhanced efficiency, greater customer satisfaction, and loyal staff aren’t enough, hiring an NLTG apprentice is also cost-effective. Compared to traditional recruitment approaches, there are no advertising costs to consider, or staff time spent interviewing candidate after candidate. Because apprentices are more likely to stay with your firm for longer, you won’t have to repeat the process either!

There is also ample funding for Stockport businesses looking to take on a new Warehouse and Logistics apprentice, with most employers receiving a government grant of £1,000 for each apprentice they take on. It’s no surprise, then, that so many UK apprentice employers report that they can recover the investment in one to two years. Even better, they gain a dedicated and talented employee who will continue to learn for years to come.

It’s easy and quick to fill a skills gap when you hire an apprentice with NLTG. Because we offer so many different apprenticeship pathways, your firm can find new talent in fields like Retail, Catering and Hospitality, Furniture Occupations, Business Improvement Techniques, Glass Occupations, Business Administration, Information Technology, Customer Service, General Manufacturing, and Team Leading and Management.

For each apprentice that your company hires with NLTG, you may also be entitled to another £1,000 government financial incentive. So get started by raising an apprenticeship vacancy on our site today!

  • Apprentices will be trained to understand how your industry works, helping to ensure your future workforce is exactly the way you want it to be. They can generate new ideas and creativity to expand your business and are a cost-effective way of achieving a return on investment.

What training do I need to provide?

You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

We will visit your premises every 4 to 6 weeks to help with the training and guide your apprentice through their programme.

How much does it cost to employ an apprentice?

Apprentices are employees of your company and you are responsible for paying your apprentice’s wage.  You must pay at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage and can find out more by clicking here.  The Apprenticeship minimum wage relates to apprentices aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 and above in the first year of their Apprenticeship.

For apprentices aged under 25, you may not need to pay National Insurance contributions during their training.  Find out more by clicking here.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.

How are disciplinary procedures handled?

They are handled like any other employee’s, but NLTG are on hand to provide help and support if you feel it is necessary.

What funding and grants are available?

If your apprentice is aged:

• 16-18; or

• 19-24 and is a care leaver or has a Local Authority Education, Health & Care Plan

… you’ll receive a £1,000 incentive payment for each apprentice.

Payments will be made in two equal instalments; the first once the apprentice has been on programme for 3 months and the second after the apprentice has been on programme for 12 months.  (It may take up to 9 weeks after the incentive payment dates for funds to be processed and transferred).
