NLTG can help you hire a Warehouse and Logistics Apprentice in Manchester

Does your Manchester business have a skills gap? If your company relies on a smoothly functioning warehouse to conduct business, NLTG supplies Warehouse and Logistics apprentices who can fill that gap for you in a very short time. A Warehouse and Logistics apprentice is quickly able to help your firm succeed by giving you a hand with tasks such as loading and unloading lorries or trailers, ensuring that security and safety standards are upheld, and a whole range of activities related to the logistical aspects of running your warehouse.

Our NLTG Warehouse and Logistics apprentices are keen, eager, and quick to learn when it comes to the warehousing industry. While they train at your company, they will be gaining valuable workplace experience and applying their learnings in practice to help your firm grow and succeed. A fresh, hungry NLTG apprentice can be an organisational advantage from the very start of their apprenticeship, as your company will be able to delegate warehouse-related and logistical tasks and make your operations more efficient.

Hiring a Warehouse and Logistics apprentice is also a clever way to streamline and improve your firm’s recruitment process. Employers who choose the apprenticeship pathway for recruitment are able to save on the costs of placing advertisements, lengthy interview processes, and background checking candidate references. Rather, our apprentices are already guaranteed to meet the NLTG’s minimum requirements for English and Maths. They also continue to receive tutorship from our trainers so that they can reinforce and consolidate the skills they’ve acquired while working with your firm. This allows your firm to onboard a new worker, with minimum hassle, who can start adding value from day one!

The hands-on nature of our apprenticeship programmes means that your new Warehouse and Logistics apprentice will be training right on your doorstep! Apart from the fact that they will be able to start working for your company from the get-go, this also means that your Manchester organisation will be able to enjoy the many gains of hiring a new apprentice recruit, without any of the travel time or expenses.

Alongside our excellent Warehouse and Logistics apprentices, the NLTG also offers Manchester companies a wide choice of apprentices in other fields. These include: Catering and Hospitality, Customer Service, Retail, General Manufacturing, Furniture Occupations, Business Administration, Glass Occupations, Information Technology, Team Leading and Management, and Business Improvement Techniques. NLTG provide training in the Manchester area for your current employees

            1. Every strategic and successful UK organisation understands the value of keeping their current workforce on top of it’s game. This means allowing your existing employees to participate in and learn from on-the-job training, so that they can develop and enhance their existing skills. NLTG also provide training for your existing staff in the specific or generalisable skills that your organisation requires, and very often they are able to do so by enrolling in an apprenticeship programme.
            1. While your current staff are training on-site at your workplace, they’ll be able to pursue further qualifications and assist your firm in raising the bar when it comes to the present level of it’s service and product offerings. Upskilling your current employees is thus a popular means of adding to your company’s overall skill profile, whilst helping to increase talent retention through higher job satisfaction. When you enroll your existing staff in an NLTG apprenticeship programme, they’ll also be helping your company to upgrade it’s customer offerings without the added costs of off-site training or travel. How will employing an apprentice benefit my company?

Employing an Apprentice can bring numerous benefits to your business including:

• increased productivity.

• increased employee satisfaction.

• increased loyalty and commitment.

  • Apprentices will be trained to understand how your industry works, helping to ensure your future workforce is exactly the way you want it to be. They can generate new ideas and creativity to expand your business and are a cost-effective way of achieving a return on investment.

What training do I need to provide?

You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

We will visit your premises every 4 to 6 weeks to help with the training and guide your apprentice through their programme.

How much does it cost to employ an apprentice?

Apprentices are employees of your company and you are responsible for paying your apprentice’s wage.  You must pay at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage and can find out more by clicking here.  The Apprenticeship minimum wage relates to apprentices aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 and above in the first year of their Apprenticeship.

For apprentices aged under 25, you may not need to pay National Insurance contributions during their training.  Find out more by clicking here.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.

How are disciplinary procedures handled?

They are handled like any other employee’s, but NLTG are on hand to provide help and support if you feel it is necessary.

What funding and grants are available?

If your apprentice is aged:

• 16-18; or

• 19-24 and is a care leaver or has a Local Authority Education, Health & Care Plan

… you’ll receive a £1,000 incentive payment for each apprentice.

Payments will be made in two equal instalments; the first once the apprentice has been on programme for 3 months and the second after the apprentice has been on programme for 12 months.  (It may take up to 9 weeks after the incentive payment dates for funds to be processed and transferred).

Grants may also be available but the availability and requirements for these change on a regular basis so you are best speaking to us for up-to-date information.

Depending upon the size of your company, different funding arrangements are in place for Apprenticeship training.  For full details, please click here.
