Positive, customer-oriented team members are at the heart of any great service business – they can make or break in the catering industry. At NLTG, we have flexible, fast-learning Catering and Hospitality Apprentices who can assist your company’s growth and ensure you’ve always delivering mind-blowing service. And for a limited time only, your firm can take on new staff while earning great bonuses under the new government incentives for employers hiring an Apprentice in Lancashire

Pubs, cafes, hotels, and restaurants are essential cornerstones of daily life. They’re where we eat and get together, and a good meal – with great service – gets talked about for ages. If new staff members are what your business needs to be efficient, successful, and go the extra mile, you can now save more than ever before when you hire a new apprentice to help you achieve that goal.

The new government incentives for employers hiring a Catering and Hospitality Apprentice in Lancashire applies to businesses of all sizes in the sector, whether you are operating a cafe, bistro, bar, or hotel. As well as a financial payout made directly to your business for every apprentice that your firm hires, this also includes apprenticeship training funding that entirely covers, or drastically offsets the costs of training that employee.

To qualify, your Lancashire company only needs to hire a 16-18-year-old Catering and Hospitality Apprentice from one of our professionally-designed pathways, and your company will gain £3,000 per new recruit. If your company has fewer than 49 employees, you’ll even be eligible to enjoy the Government’s 100% coverage for the cost of training your new employee, while companies that do not pay the Apprenticeship Levy receive up to 95% in training reimbursement.

If you’re searching high and low for the ideal food preparation assistant, service staff, or commis chef – these incentives are available for a short period only. NLTG pathways require no time commitments from your new hires outside of your establishment, so all training is fully hands-on and delivered by your existing expert staff. If you’re in a specific niche or you’ve got trade secrets you want to pass on, an apprenticeship offers all the flexibility for you to make sure that happens!

Even restaurants and coffee shops looking for apprentices outside this age range can strategically benefit from the new government incentives for employers hiring a Catering and Hospitality Apprentice in Lancashire. New apprentice hires aged between 19-24 will entitle your company to £2,000 plus 95% of apprenticeship training coverage, while every new apprentice aged 25 years and older comes with a £1,500 payment for your organisation to reinvest.

The temporary incentives last only until the 31st of March 2021, presenting a valuable window of opportunity for Lancashire employers who want to strengthen their people assets with fresh, eager talent. As well as being driven, career-motivated learners, apprentices are also well-known dedicated employees who can fill any skills gaps you might have had to create during recent months. By working directly among your staff members as employees from Day One, they’ll even present a superb chance for your team to practice their mentoring skills!

At NLTG, we prioritise work-based learning and put you in complete control of the direction you want your new apprentice to take. Our Catering and Hospitality Apprenticeships include Level 2, 3, and 4 pathways such as Production Chef, Chef de Partie, Hospitality Supervisor, and more – so you’ll never be short of superb staff again. As well as our established Catering Apprenticeships, we also offer Business Administration, Business Improvement TechniquesCustomer Service, Furniture Occupations, General Manufacturing, Glass Occupations, IT and Digital Marketing, Retail, Team Leading and Management, and Warehouse and Logistics pathways for UK employers who hope to expand and specialise within their sectors. Frequently Asked Questions

How will employing an apprentice benefit my company?

Employing an Apprentice can bring numerous benefits to your business including:

• increased productivity.

• increased employee satisfaction.

• increased loyalty and commitment.

• reduced staff turnover.

  • Apprentices will be trained to understand how your industry works, helping to ensure your future workforce is exactly the way you want it to be. They can generate new ideas and creativity to expand your business and are a cost-effective way of achieving a return on investment.

What training do I need to provide?

You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

We will visit your premises every 4 to 6 weeks to help with the training and guide your apprentice through their programme.

How much does it cost to employ an apprentice?

Apprentices are employees of your company and you are responsible for paying your apprentice’s wage.  You must pay at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage and can find out more by clicking here.  The Apprenticeship minimum wage relates to apprentices aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 and above in the first year of their Apprenticeship.

For apprentices aged under 25, you may not need to pay National Insurance contributions during their training.  Find out more by clicking here.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.

How are disciplinary procedures handled?

They are handled like any other employee’s, but NLTG are on hand to provide help and support if you feel it is necessary.

What funding and grants are available?

If your apprentice is aged:

• 16-18; or

• 19-24 and is a care leaver or has a Local Authority Education, Health & Care Plan

… you’ll receive a £1,000 incentive payment for each apprentice.

Payments will be made in two equal instalments; the first once the apprentice has been on programme for 3 months and the second after the apprentice has been on programme for 12 months.  (It may take up to 9 weeks after the incentive payment dates for funds to be processed and transferred).

Grants may also be available but the availability and requirements for these change on a regular basis so you are best speaking to us for up-to-date information.

Depending upon the size of your company, different funding arrangements are in place for Apprenticeship training.  For full details, please click here.
