Greater Manchester

2020 has been a year full of change, requiring many British firms to adapt to the times with new and improved customer offerings. Across all sectors, that means higher-quality output, and often more clients to serve.

If you’re an employer in Manchester who’s felt the increased demand for adaptability, it’s time to take charge and grow your Furniture Occupations business. Luckily, doing so doesn’t have to break the bank with the extensions to the New Government Incentives for Employers hiring a Furniture Occupations Apprentice in Greater Manchester

These one-time incentives from the UK government now apply until the 31st of March, and are a fantastic opportunity for furniture designers, installers, upholsterers, restorers and other business owners in the furniture sector. If you’re looking to fill a skills gap in your company while receiving a government bonus of up to £3,000 – now is the time. The scheme entitles smaller companies with a workforce of 49 or fewer staff to take on a new 16-18-year-old Furniture Occupations apprentice in Greater Manchester to receive the full payment, plus reimbursement for all of their apprenticeship training costs. Larger companies still receive the full figure, which represents a 3x increase on the original £1,000 apprenticeship incentive, as well as 95% of the costs for their training reimbursed.

You may be looking for a quick-learning, motivated, and career-driven Furniture Manufacturer who can help you craft quality designs, or a Wood Product Manufacturer to work alongside you and speed up the pace of production – it’s up to you to make the strategic choice for your business! Under the new government incentives for employers hiring a Furniture Occupations Apprentice in Greater Manchester, it’s even possible to recruit a new 19-24-year-old or 25+-year-old apprentice to receive £2,000 or £1,500. Your apprentice will train with you or your experienced staff, and you’ll be free to impart the tricks of the trade as they apply to your specific company. If you hire a new apprentice between now and the end of March, you’ll have 95% of your more experienced hire’s training costs covered by the government, for you to invest in your company’s growth and future success.

All of NLTG’s Furniture Occupations apprenticeships are carefully structured courses that lead up to a nationally-recognised Level 2 or Level 3 certificate. But as you and your new hire work together to create business value, you’ll also be shaping a workforce that’s ready for tomorrow.

Why not grow your firm’s other functions while the incentives still apply? With our Business Administration, Business Improvement Techniques, Catering and Hospitality, Customer Service, General Manufacturing, Glass Occupations, IT and Digital Marketing, Retail, Team Leading and Management, and Warehouse and Logistics apprenticeship courses, onboarding and developing the staff you need has never been so easy. How will employing an apprentice benefit my company?

  • Apprentices will be trained to understand how your industry works, helping to ensure your future workforce is exactly the way you want it to be. They can generate new ideas and creativity to expand your business and are a cost-effective way of achieving a return on investment.

What training do I need to provide?

You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

We will visit your premises every 4 to 6 weeks to help with the training and guide your apprentice through their programme.

How much does it cost to employ an apprentice?

Apprentices are employees of your company and you are responsible for paying your apprentice’s wage.  You must pay at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage and can find out more by clicking here.  The Apprenticeship minimum wage relates to apprentices aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 and above in the first year of their Apprenticeship.

For apprentices aged under 25, you may not need to pay National Insurance contributions during their training.  Find out more by clicking here.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.

How are disciplinary procedures handled?

They are handled like any other employee’s, but NLTG are on hand to provide help and support if you feel it is necessary.
