Have you put off hiring an apprentice for your business? If you’re on the fence and looking for a reason, now’s the time to recruit! At NLTG, we’ve been matching employers nationwide with local apprentices in their sectors, so here are our 5 reasons to hire an apprentice in Blackburn now.

Apprenticeship programmes are wonderfully cost-effective recruitment strategies in comparison to hiring staff the conventional way, through adverts, interviews, and intensive selection processes. When you hire an apprentice as a business owner or HR manager, you can skip the cost of promoting your position in the media. With NLTG, you can simply post a vacancy for your required talent, and we’ll help you find the perfect candidate for your firm and skills gap.

Second, there’s no better way to start boosting your productivity instantly. Each apprentice you hire with NLTG is an employee from Day One, meaning you can get help in the warehouse, on the shop floor, or in your hospitality business instantly. Training is done through experience, so your hire will learn while they work!

Third, apprenticeship training is perhaps the most specific and relevant kind of training any employee can receive. You can train your apprentice any way you like, from work shadowing to mentoring, making sure your new hire has exactly the skills you require for the job.

Looking for another important reason to hire a Blackburn apprentice in your chosen field? Taking on a new team member is always a positive for your culture, but welcoming a new apprentice can be particularly motivational. One of the top things we hear from our NLTG apprentice employers is that their new hires are a brilliant source of fresh perspectives and new ideas. If your company is looking to grow, a new apprentice can be a massive morale boost!

Perhaps the most critical reason of our 5 reasons to hire an apprentice in Blackburn – now it’s more cost-effective than ever. Thanks to the UK government’s incentives for employers hiring a new apprentice, the financial bonus for taking a new apprentice on has been increased from the original £1,000 to £3,000, a three-fold increase on the original payment. This applies to new apprentices aged between 16 and 18 in all of NLTG’s available programmes, and payments are made directly to your company in two instalments for any organisational purpose that you see most fit. Needless to say, the increased instalments have become a popular way for savvy employers to acquire much-needed new staff at a time when customer demand is booming, however there is a caveat. To receive £3,000 for hiring a new apprentice in Blackburn, employers need to recruit their chosen candidate before the end of January 2022. After this time, the increased incentives will no longer apply.

NLTG’s apprenticeship programmes include a broad selection of pathways that enable you to grow your organisation strategically. If you are looking for a talented Business Administration, Business Improvement Techniques, Catering and Hospitality, Customer Service, Furniture Occupations, , I.T. or Digital Marketing, Manufacturing, Retail, or Warehouse and Logistics apprentice, our experienced team will help you find the right local candidate. You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

We will visit your premises every 4 to 6 weeks to help with the training and guide your apprentice through their programme.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.

How are disciplinary procedures handled?

They are handled like any other employee’s, but NLTG are on hand to provide help and support if you feel it is necessary.
