A letter from the MD

Established in 1969, NLTG is one of the largest independent training providers in the country and we pride ourselves on the quality of services we deliver to our learners and employers.

We employ a fantastic team of professional people who are constantly undertaking training and development. This includes Apprenticeship Tutors, English and Maths Tutors, Study Programme and Traineeship Tutors and Tutors who deliver our courses to support job seekers; all supported by our highly trained support teams.

We are committed to the continuous improvement of our services and are dedicated to total learner and employer satisfaction, with the emphasis on individuals and their needs. Our aim is to make a real difference to every learner’s life and every employer’s business.

We can source apprentices for employers or train existing members of an employer’s team. We deliver Apprenticeships at Levels 2 to 5 in a wide variety of occupations - Furniture Occupations, Business Administration, IT Digital Support, Customer Service, Digital Marketing, Catering & Hospitality, Lean Manufacturing, Warehousing, Glass Occupations, Team Leading, Management and Retail.

NLTG also offers Traineeships and our popular Study Programme courses. These are exciting pre-Apprenticeship programmes tailored to suit the needs of young people aged 16-18 who are not yet ready, or able to directly enter employment or an Apprenticeship.

Our courses for job seekers have assisted many people in returning to the world of work and creating a better life for themselves.

We also offer a range of commercial training options, including e-learning courses, compliance training and specialist furniture courses, alongside our health and safety programmes.

Furniture Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) opened
Furniture Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) opened

Our Furniture Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) was officially opened by Lord Kirkham, owner of DFS Furniture Stores.

Bradshawgate premises bought
Bradshawgate premises bought

Bradshawgate premises bought for £830,000 to house ever increasing staff numbers, a Furniture Training School and a car park. Refurbishment began in 2003.

Pam becomes Operations Director

It was agreed to make Pam Mallabourn a Director of the company with the title Operations Director

Dutton Street premises bought
Dutton Street premises bought

Dutton Street premises bought for £85,000 due to increase in staff numbers.

The Patron’s Company was formed

A meeting was held about the Outward Bound Trust for help and support financially. The Patron’s Company was formed and was backed by NLTG to the tune of £10,000 per year.

Infant Street premises opened
Infant Street premises opened

Infant Street premises bought due to increased staff numbers and was opened in June 1996.

We received the Investors in People award.
We received the Investors in People award.

We applied for it in February 1992 but had to wait until December before people were trained so we could be assessed.

Jim becomes Managing Director

Jim Harkness was offered a Directorship of the company and his title became Managing Director.

We became a Ltd Company with a Board of Directors

To protect our considerable assets it was decided to hold an extraordinary General Meeting and for the Group to become a Limited company with a Board of Directors.

The Tramway public house was purchased
The Tramway public house was purchased

Due to an increase in staff a larger premise was needed. The Tramway public house was purchased and converted to offices. We moved in during 1985.
