Bolton

Is your Bolton organisation in need of sharp, eager-to-learn employees? The business environment in the UK is constantly changing, and keeping up with the latest trends and requirements can be tough without a strong, high-performing workforce. If you’re searching for a financially sustainable way to grow your team, an apprenticeship could be the answer. Here are NLTG’s top 5 reasons for Bolton companies to hire an apprentice in 2022.

Hiring a new apprentice is cost-effective, and there’s never been a more important time for UK businesses to cut down on unnecessary expenses. A great team is always essential, but traditional hiring methods can be considerably resource-intensive, requiring rounds of interviews, background checks, and advertising in paid media. It’s for precisely these reasons that an increasing number of the UK’s most successful companies have begun hiring apprentices, which with NLTG, takes little more than raising an apprenticeship vacancy to find the right local candidate.

If hiring is financially inefficient, the wrong kind of training can be even more so. The second of our 5 reasons for Bolton companies to hire an apprentice in 2022 is that apprenticeship pathways give you as an employer the flexibility to train your staff in the most relevant way for your firm. You can save valuable time and ensure your teammates have the right skills for their roles by choosing the most effective course of development for your firm, be it mentoring, work shadowing, or action-based learning on the job.

Recruiting new staff can be a great way for firms to benefit from new perspectives and ideas, giving them the adaptability that is so essential for success in 2022. The third of NLTG’s 5 reasons for Bolton companies to hire an apprentice in 2022 is the fact that new apprentices can help you improve the way things are done, making your organisation more flexible and responsive in an ever more competitive business context.

Fourth, hiring an apprentice can reduce your company’s staff turnover, significantly improving morale and enhancing your productivity. Apprentices are known for being fiercely dedicated, and often continue with their hiring organisations for years, taking on more senior roles as they gain experience. Don’t take our word for it – see our employer case studies!

Finally, at the top of our list of 5 reasons for Bolton companies to hire an apprentice in 2022, your Bolton company can receive a significant financial bonus for doing so. Until the end of January this year, your Bolton firm could enjoy a substantially increased apprenticeship hiring incentive of up to £3000, depending on the age of your chosen new apprentice and the size of your company. The government’s increased incentive scheme has seen eligible receiving an increase of as much as 300% on the standard £1000 apprentice recruitment incentive for every 16-18-year-old new candidate that they hire while the scheme still applies. Your company is free to invest these installments however you most see fit, which could cover new essential equipment, IT systems, or any strategic investment that will get you ahead in 2022. What more could you want?

What training do I need to provide?

You will need to train a new apprentice in their job role and provide them with a mentor, as you would with any new member of staff.  The apprentice however, may need a little more support, especially if they have not worked in your industry before or are learning a new role.

Apprentices are employees of your company and you are responsible for paying your apprentice’s wage.  You must pay at least the Apprenticeship minimum wage and can find out more by clicking here.  The Apprenticeship minimum wage relates to apprentices aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 and above in the first year of their Apprenticeship.

What days and hours do apprentices work?

Apprentices are employees of your company, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.

As such, you will decide the days and hours you would like apprentices to work (which must be at least 30 hours per week), their rest breaks and paid holiday entitlement etc, in line with Employment Law and the Working Hours Directive.

If you employ an apprentice aged under 18, the law states that they must not work more than 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.  They are also entitled to paid holidays and rest breaks of at least 30 minutes if their shift lasts more than four and half hours.

How are disciplinary procedures handled?
