Course Overview

A team leader/supervisor is a first line management role, with operational/project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome. They provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role.

Key responsibilities are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.

The learner must have the ability and opportunity to:
• Lead and support a team of people through performance management.
• Support the organisation’s strategy, goals and objectives.
• Deliver against operational plans.
• Support a budget within own area of responsibility.
• Undertake a work-based project.
• Manage own personal development.

Roles/Occupations may include: Supervisor, Team Leader, Project Officer, Shift Supervisor, Foreperson, and Shift Manager.

On completion, learners may choose to register (membership fees apply) as Associate Members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership and Management, to support their professional career development and progression.

The Content

This programme will develop the following knowledge, skills and behaviours:

Functional Skills in English and Maths
Learners who have not already achieved Level 2 English and Maths must do so as part of the programme.

The Assessment

Learners will need to undertake an End Point Assessment which comprises the following:
• Presentation with questions and answers
• Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

Course Duration

Up to 19 months (ie a practical training period of up to 14 months, followed by an End Point Assessment (EPA) period of up to 5 months).
