Case Study – Tom Hart Traineeship at Glazerite Name: Tom Hart Age: 18 Company: Glazerite Job Role: Quality Controller What is your job role and what does that involve? I am an Apprentice Quality Controller. That involves checking over windows and doors for any faults before they are dispatched. How did you find out about Traineeships and why did you decide to undertake one? I found out about NLTG from a friend who they had helped to get an Apprenticeship. I needed a job and wanted to get a qualification so I got in contact with them and this position was available. What qualifications have you gained during your Traineeship and/or what qualifications are you working towards at the moment? I am currently working towards my Level 2 Glass related Distribution and Warehousing. What do you enjoy most about doing the Traineeship? I enjoyed trying out the industry before I started on a permanent Apprenticeship. It helped me see what sort of things I would be doing if I progressed which was important to me. How has the Traineeship benefited you? What skills have you learned? It has taught me a lot about my job role and the sort of things I need to do in order to be successful and do my job correctly as it is a vital role in the company. Have you progressed in the company or have you progressed onto an Apprenticeship? I have progressed from my Traineeship onto a full time Apprenticeship and am enjoying going through the qualification so far. What benefits has your employer seen? My employer has told me that I am a great asset to the company and the quality control team. Has your attitude changed towards training? Yes it has, initially I thought the Traineeship wouldn’t be enjoyable but the further I got into it the more I enjoyed it and now I have progressed onto my Apprenticeship which is even better. What would you like to achieve in the future? I would like to progress further in the company, maybe try out other departments to learn new skills and gain new qualifications and hopefully work towards becoming a manager. What would you advise school leavers about Traineeships/Apprenticeships? I would advise that they do an Apprenticeship over going to college and Uni. Obviously it depends on what career you are looking at getting into but do an Apprenticeship if you can.
