Course Overview

The Operations/Departmental Manager apprenticeship has been designed to provide access to development opportunities for as wide a range of individuals as possible. This includes individuals who are at the start of their career and who wish to take their first steps into professional management, as well as those who may already have developed practical experience but who wish to develop their theoretical understanding of management skills.

An operations/departmental manager is generally someone who is able to manage teams and/or projects, and has responsibility for planning, delivering, achieving departmental goals and objectives, managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring. They are accountable to a more senior manager, head of department or small business owner, and are responsible for the operational and/or policy delivery of the organisation’s strategy.

Roles may include: Operations Manager, Regional Manager, Divisional Manager, Department Manager and specialist managers.

On completion, learners can register as full members (membership fees apply) with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership and Management, and those with 3 years’ of management experience can apply for Chartered manager status through the CMI.

Course Duration

Up to 20 months (ie a practical training period of up to 14 months, followed by an End Point Assessment (EPA) period of up to 6 months).

Entry Requirements

You will have to take a Skills Scan to ensure your current level of maths and English is at the required level.

After completing the Level 5 Apprenticeship, you can progress onto further study in the Management sector.
