Overview

NLTG work alongside the DWP (Department for Work & Pensions) and other local agencies to deliver a range of Sector-based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs).

SWAPs provide the opportunity for jobseekers who are claiming benefits, to learn new skills and gain valuable work experience in a particular industry. They are aimed at those who are ready to start work, but who may need to learn the skills and behaviours that employers in particular industries look for in new employees.

SWAPs build confidence, improve job prospects and enhance CVs. More importantly, they include a guaranteed interview with a company and the potential to become employed. Individuals will be referred to a SWAP by Job Coaches and will continue to receive benefits whilst taking part in the SWAP.

What’s included?

SWAPs include the following key elements:
• vocational training (see the list of courses available at NLTG below).
• work experience with an employer, where you can learn new skills on the job.
• at the end of the programme, a job interview with an employer in the sector and help with the application/interview process.

What courses are available?

At NLTG, courses available as a SWAP are:
• Furniture Level 1 with Health & Safety Level 2
• Hospitality Level 1 with Food Safety Level 2
• Customer Service at Entry Level 3 or Level 1
• Business Administration Level 1

Learners may also study a ‘Digital Employability’ qualification, to help them update or create a candidate CV. We will also carry out interview preparation and conduct mock interviews with our learners to prepare them for their employer interview.
