At NLTG, we are proud to have built strong partnerships with businesses across the hospitality sector and one shining example is our ongoing relationship with The White Bull in Oswaldtwistle.
A thriving gastro pub that’s been open for three years, The White Bull offers everything from fine dining experiences to classic pub favourites, and it has also become a hub for nurturing hospitality talent through Apprenticeships.
The White Bull has welcomed many successful NLTG Apprentices through its doors over the years, and two of their current team members, Charlie and Lois, are shining examples of what Apprenticeships can offer.
Sean Forshaw, Head Chef at The White Bull, said: “We have worked a lot with NLTG on Apprenticeships including roles in food service, the kitchen and trainee supervisors, and we have had numerous good quality people that have come through the doors with them.”
Charlie – Building Confidence and a Career
Charlie works front of house and is nearing the completion of her Apprenticeship. From greeting and seating customers to taking orders and making drinks, she’s involved in every aspect of customer service.
After struggling with the academic demands of college, Charlie turned to her friends and family for advice. They pointed her towards NLTG. After applying for several Apprenticeships, she found her perfect fit at The White Bull.
Charlie said: “I immediately fell in love with the place. The staff were so friendly, and the environment was really welcoming.”
Thanks to regular monthly visits from her NLTG tutor, Charlie has felt supported every step of the way. And one of her biggest personal achievements? Growing in confidence.
She said: “Before my Apprenticeship, I was really shy, I couldn’t even speak to people. Now, I talk to everyone confidently!”
Lois – Learning by Doing
Lois is in her first year of an Apprenticeship as a trainee hospitality supervisor. Her day-to-day responsibilities include managing staff rotas, handling pre-orders, and cashing up, real hands-on experience that she thrives on.
Having previously started University, Lois realised the academic route wasn’t for her and left after three months. She quickly found that learning on the job, with the support of a dedicated tutor, suited her much better.
She said: “University’s not for everyone. For me, it’s a lot easier working as I learn, and my NLTG tutor helps me break everything down. It just makes everything easier.”
Her monthly reviews with her tutor help her stay on track, offering structured support while she gains practical experience in a fast-paced environment.
