The Courthouse Restaurant deputy chef Omar Zamir has been awarded with the 2016 North Lancs Training Group (NLTG) Apprentice of the Year award. He was presented with a certificate and a trophy by the NLTG team which recognised all the hard work and dedication he has shown throughout his apprenticeship

This is Omar’s 3rd prestigious award that he has won last year! He won a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence back in February 2016, and won Apprentice of the Year in the Retail, Hospitality and Tourism sector at the Asian Apprenticeship awards in November

Omar is a young man with a huge determination to succeed despite being profoundly deaf.

Omar works for ELDS Blackburn as a chef and has been learning his trade over the past three years.

His tutors say that despite having to communicate through an interpreter he has learned not only to cook a full menu but has integrated with his colleagues and also started to help to teach other young chefs.

Omar is described by his course tutor as an exceptional and positive student who always wants to produce the best dishes.

Gareth Lindsay, NLTG’s operations director said: “To say that Omar is a great apprentice is an understatement. It has been a really good year for him and he deserves it. We are very proud and delighted to award him with our apprentice of the year award.”

Omar said: “I am proud of myself and shocked at the same time because I was not expecting to win the award or have a lot of people vote for me.

I have been at ELDS for a long time and I am happy that they offer these opportunities. The team continue to encourage the non-hearing and help train all the apprentices when they come to work here.”

Well Done Omar!
