Former NLTG Apprentice Passes on the Torch

Pennine Labels Ltd have offered a complete label, print and packaging service for both manufacturers and retailers for over 40 years. Specialising in fabric label printing, Apprenticeships have become a huge part of their business over the years.

Based in Colne, Lancashire, we caught up with their Digital Marketer and former NLTG Apprentice, Adam Parker, to talk about the importance Apprenticeships have had in his career, whilst we also chatted to current Apprentice Ben Parkinson about his experiences and his training from Adam.

Adam said: “I originally went to college and did a couple of BTECs, but I soon realised it wasn’t for me.

“I’d rather be in the workplace actively doing something rather than completing loads of coursework and tests – an Apprenticeship was definitely more suited to me.

“I applied through the North Lancs Training Group website, where they had their Apprenticeship vacancies listed. It was Pennine Labels that stood out and was the perfect fit for me.

“The best part about the Apprenticeship is dealing with the customers, speaking to them on the phone and through email. When they give you praise, you feel really accomplished.”

On starting to build his own team at Pennine Labels, Adam added:

“Finishing my Apprenticeship, I have now progressed onto having my own Apprentice.

“It is great to start building a team and to be able to transfer my skills onto them. It has been really good and a great confidence booster for me.

“I would recommend NLTG to anyone. Everyone I have dealt with from applying for the Apprenticeship to finishing it, have been really professional, really helpful and they have just been amazing all the way through.”

Ben Parkinson, Digital Marketing Apprentice, said:

“I saw the vacancy on the Gov.uk website. I was just browsing through Marketing Apprenticeships, I saw this one and the training side of things looked really attractive, so I went for it.

“If you’re ready for work and the education route and sitting in a classroom isn’t really for you anymore, I’d definitely recommend it.

“You are learning in a work environment which is the whole idea of an Apprenticeship and personally I’ve learnt a lot more doing that than I would have done sat in a classroom, whilst getting paid at the same time, so it’s perfect if that’s what you are looking for.”
