A fantastic opportunity to embark on a rewarding career within Stockport Council. The role of Apprentice Revenues and Benefits Officer provides excellent progression opportunities for the right candidate and involves completing a Level 3 Customer Service Specialist Apprenticeship.

Main Purpose of the role
• To maintain Revenues and Benefits systems to provide an effective service.
• To assess entitlement to benefits and the contributions for care services.
• To assess liability to pay Council Tax and Business Rates

Day to day duties
• Taking debit/credit card telephone payments, which requires security and accuracy.
• Processing cheques (value), refunds (value) and cash where required.
• Individual PCs, phones and shared office equipment such as printers/ photocopiers and fax machines.
• Maintenance of customer databases.
• Processing refunds and write-offs.
• Taking recovery action when account not paid.
• To create and action a range of system reports.
• Analysis of statistical data and reporting.
• To report errors where identified.
• To provide advice and support on technical /legislative matters to colleagues.
• To consult with other Council sections and outside agencies, maintain good communications and ensure prompt and efficient passage of information.
• To ensure all actions comply with Data Protection Act.
• To actively participate in reviewing working procedures and make recommendations for improvements and assist in the implementation of improvements.
• To attend and contribute in a positive manner at appropriate meetings
• To adhere to Corporate policies and procedures where relevant
• To assist in the support and development of other staff
• To report errors where identified.
The role is full time based in Stockport for an initial 18 month contract with a view to becoming permanent after 6-9 months subject to competency. There will be opportunity for further qualifications and career progression within the service

Educational Requirements

• Will need to undertake a short PC assessment prior to interview selection
