Company Bio

We are a hardwood timber merchants, based in Sheffield. We supply to both commercial and domestic customers, and pride ourselves in offering products and services that are not commonly available.

We specialise in British timber, predominantly hardwoods, selling to high quality joinery and furniture shops, interior designers, architects, civil engineering companies and various other construction oriented firms.

We also have a shop on site where we sell timber to the general public, and have samples of the machined products we sell, these include solid hardwood flooring and cladding, as well as some examples of finished furniture that we make in-house.

Description

The apprentice would learn:
• The different species of timber and their individual working characteristics
• Gain an understanding of machining timber, taking it from rough sawn through to its finished state
• A knowledge of the timber industry
• The right candidate can also learn about logistics, supply chains, processes and stock management
• Depending on the candidates specific interest, we can tailor the work schedule to suit their strengths and ambitions

Requirements

• Willingness to work hard and be used to the outdoors.
• An interest in machines.
• Driving licence useful and favourable but not necessary.
• Driving may become part of the job, and therefore training would be provided if required.
• No qualifications strictly necessary but some experience in working with materials such as wood or metal (outside school/college) would be preferable.

Additional Info

Excellent opportunities for apprentice that shows promise, we are and will be looking to fill more senior roles and would want the apprentice to be keen on staying at the company once the apprentice is finished and becoming a key member of the firm.

Additional training can be offered, including chainsaw courses, wood machining courses and driving instruction for vehicles and plant.

Capable candidates can expect their wage to increase as their skills and knowledge improve.
