Case Study – Tom Brassey Apprenticeship at Pierce Chartered Accountants LTD Name: Tom Brassey Age: 20 Company: Pierce Chartered Accountants LTD Job Role: IT Technician/Trainee Accountant After leaving school I felt that I was better suited to on the job learning rather than classroom based study. Through friends, I found out about Apprenticeships and NLTG. I started my Apprenticeship at Pierce’s back in March 2014. I work in the IT department looking after the IT function amongst other things and have learnt the necessary skills to do my job. I have achieved my Level 2 and 3 NVQ in IT user skills, both done via hands on learning in the workplace. I have also had the chance to do other courses such as a First Aid at Work qualification and an Introduction to Bookkeeping. My IT skills and confidence have grown and have therefore progressed in the company. My job role now also includes Bookkeeping which involves maintaining clients’ accounts. I have learnt the basics of how accountancy works and, in turn, how businesses operate. In the future, I would like to progress onto an advanced accounting course and become an experienced accountant. If you enjoy more practical, hands on learning then an Apprenticeship will be more suited to you rather than college.
