Course Overview

As an apprentice woodmachinist, you will be following a training programme which offers training in a variety of areas in the woodmachining industry. This is a highly skilled job which will involve setting up and operating a wide range of woodworking machinery and equipment. You will be responsible for the basic maintenance of all the machines you have received training on, which will include changing and sharpening cutters, saws and blades. You will be trained to set the machines to fine tolerances.

What will I achieve?

NLTG will provide an assessment and depending on your current level and abilities you will take one of the following routes:

• Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Woodmachining
• Functional Skills
• Technical Certificate
• Employee Rights and Responsibilities
• Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Woodmachining
• Functional Skills

What training will I receive?

You will learn to set up and operate different machines under the guidance of a skilled and experienced woodmachinist who will give you personal one to one training to ensure that your work is of the safest and highest possible standard.

If you are following an Apprenticeship programme you will be assessed in the workplace by a qualified NLTG Tutor. An opportunity to attend our Centre of Vocational Excellence in furniture manufacture will be incorporated into your training programme, as required, to further enhance your knowledge and skills.
