Meet NLTG Apprentice of the Year

Date: 17/05/2010

Meet NLTG Apprentice of the Year

Carl Ireson was very pleased when he won the award. Carl started working at Alfred Hulme's when he was 17 years old as a labourer. He completed his level 2 Apprenticeship with assistance from his NLTG assessor, Mark Chamberlain, and then progressed on to complete level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Wood Machining.

Carl showed enthusiasm right from the start, spending a lot of time and effort on his portfolio.

Carl has now completed his NVQ level 3 in Wood Machining, and he is looking into progressing onto either a HND or Team Leading qualification with the backing of the management at Alfred Hulme.

Carl admits that he has come a long way since he started his level 2 Apprenticeship and it has improved him considerably giving him the skills required to do his job.

These are a few of Carl's statements:

• "I found my level 2 qualification very helpful, it taught me a lot about the running and setting up of the machines. I had made the transition from labourer to machinist and didn't even realise".

• "After seeing the progress that I had made from doing level 2 with NLTG at the CoVE, I was very excited to start the next part of my qualification".

• "Without the skills that I had gained from my training with North Lancs Training Group and my company, I would not be able to fulfil this job role".

• "It is great to have the support of North Lancs Training Group and also my work place. Thanks to everyone who helped me get where I am; I look forward to working with you in the future".

As Carl's Training Officer from the start of his level 2 and to the completion of his level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship, I have seen the growth of Carl's knowledge, maturity and enthusiasm which has been a success for himself and for NLTG.

He had always said to himself that he wanted to do the best he could in whatever job he would be involved in.
