On Tuesday 6th October 2011 sixteen learners and six staff attended the World Skills London event held at the Excel centre. The trip was much anticipated by the learners and we had 100% attendance for the trip even though the learners from some centres had to set off at 5.30am to attend.
Prior to the trip, the learners attended as part of their Foundation Learning programme, a session where they looked at their current career aspirations and investigated the requirements for this career. As part of this activity the learners also highlighted their own personal skills and qualities, matching these to their chosen career and identifying the ones that require further development whilst on programme, through further work based learning or attending a further/higher education establishment.
Following the event, the learners were asked to complete an evaluation of the trip to include whether they had ever been to London before, what they thought of being selected to go to London, what they saw at the event, what they gained from the experience and whether this has widened their knowledge of career opportunities available to them.
The learner destinations will be tracked and their experiences from the day used to provide evidence to support some of the qualifications they complete whilst on Foundation Learning.
