
What is Woodmachining?
As an apprentice woodmachinist you will be following a training programme which offers training in a variety of areas in the woodmachining industry. This is a highly skilled job which will involve setting up and operating a wide range of woodworking machinery and equipment. You will be responsible for the basic maintenance of all the machines you have received training on, which will include changing and sharpening cutters, saws and blades. You will be trained to set the machines to fine tolerances.
What training will I receive?
You will learn to set up and operate different machines under the guidance of a skilled and experienced woodmachinist who will give you personal one to one training to ensure that your training is of the safest and highest possible standard.
If you are following an Apprenticeship programme you will be assessed in the workplace by a qualified Training Officer. An opportunity to attend our Centre of Vocational Excellence in furniture manufacture will be incorporated into your training programme, as required, to further enhance your knowledge and skills.

Which qualifications will I achieve?
Depending on your abilities/employer's training opportunities, you will follow one of two routes:
Intermediate level Apprenticeship:
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Woodmachining plus Key Skills /Functional Skills, Technical Certificate and Employee Rights and Responsibilities.
Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
Advanced level Apprenticeship:
Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Woodmachining plus Key Skills / Functional Skills, Technical Certificate and Employee Rights and Responsibilities.
