What is Food Manufacturing?

What is Food Manufacturing?

Food manufacturing can vary depending on the company you work for. It could include breweries, dairies, confectioners, bakeries, soft drinks, fish, fresh produce, ice cream makers etc.

As an apprentice you will be following a comprehensive training programme which offers training in a variety of skills in the production of food.

Level 2 Pathways

• Craft Bakery

• Process Bakery

• Facilities Support Skills

• Retail Skills

• Production Centre Skills

• Dispatch/Distribution Skills

What training will I receive?

The training covers the use of equipment, measuring, mixing, temperature control and packaging. You will need to work to high standards of hygiene and be conscious of quality as companies are working to very high standards.

What qualifications will I get?

If you are following an Apprenticeship programme, there will be no need to attend college as you will be assessed in the workplace by a qualified Training Officer. Depending on your abilities/employer's training opportunities, you will follow one of two routes:

1. Apprenticeship:

NVQ level 2 Food Manufacturing in your chosen pathway.

Key Skills.

Technical Certificate.

Award in Food Manufacturing level 2.

Employee Rights and Responsibilities.

2. Advanced Apprenticeship:

NVQ level 3 Food Manufacturing in chosen pathway.

Key Skills.

Technical Certificate.

Award in Food Manufacturing level 3.

Employee Rights and Responsibilities.

All of our Training Officers are committed to you as the learner, giving you support where you need it most.

Apprenticeships are free for 16 to 18 year olds and 19 to 24 year olds. For those that cannot do an apprenticeship who are 19 years old and over *, you can do an NVQ plus Essential Skill in either literacy or numeracy via our Train 2 Gain scheme.

ATTENTION EMPLOYERS OUT THERE -  Apprenticeships are not only free for most of your staff, they are also an excellent motivator for all, and show what type of employer you are, contact us for more information.

* for Train 2 Gain, you must be employed under a contract of employment, do not hold 5 GCSE grades at A-C (CSE grade 1), or an NVQ 2 or equivalent, do not hold an academic qualification at A level or above, not already on a Government funded programme.
