This apprenticeship is connected closely with installation and would be based around working on sites either within local areas or maybe traveling to other areas. Glazing can take on two forms, either site glazing of large construction projects or domestic glazing, repairing broken windows and doors at domestic properties. you will need a good head for heights and not be afraid of working in all types of weather conditions as this work is mostly outside.
Glass is being used more and more by architects and building designers, have you noticed how many glass fronted buildings there are now. This of course gives the glass industry a bright future and the industry needs young and new people to train in all types of qualifications to help it build for the future.
To enrol onto the apprenticeship you will be initially assessed and this also includes your literacy and numeracy skills, you will then be assigned your own NLTG training officer who will visit you at work, on whichever site you are at, every six to eight weeks. During these visits your training officer will discuss your development with you and your employer and liase to ensure training is carried out. Your literacy and numeracy skills will also be developed throughout the scheme either via your training officer or via a specialist tutor depending on your personal needs, this will assist in you achieving the key skills part of your apprenticeship. Your training officer is also contactable in between these visits and you will be able to contact them whenever you need to.
There is also a level 3 apprenticeship available which is suited to an experienced glazier, it is also suited for a glazier who is in charge of a team.
Enrolment and completion of a glazing NVQ will allow you to apply for a construction CSCS card.
So why choose work based learning, work based learning is the best way to learn because you are physically doing the job whilst you learn and also you earn whilst you learn.
