The glass processing occupation can involve either the manufacture of double glazed units or the manufacture and shaping of different types of glass. Glass is being used more and more in interior and exterior designs for both building structures and for furniture, its a material of the future.
The occupation can involve using CNC machinery that in some cases can be computer operated to shape, drill and grind the glass, working from either computer fobs or technical drawings.
The apprenticeship contains a level 2 NVQ and key skills in application of number, communication and IT. Some of these skills are used naturally in the job tasks and these along with numeracy and literacy skills will be assessed prior to enrolling and further developed throughout the length of the apprenticeship.
There is also a level 3 apprenticeship available in this occupation that also includes a technical certificate. This is more suited to an experienced processor and is also suited to people in a supervisors role.
When you enroll onto the apprenticeship you will be assigned your own NLTG training officer who will visit you in your place of work every six to eight weeks. At these visits your training officer will work with you and your employer to assist in your further development. Your training officer will also be contactable at any time between these visits to advise and support you as and when you need it.
What will you get when you complete the apprenticeship, a nationally recognised qualification that is recognised by companies all over the country.
Why should you choose an apprenticeship, there is no better way of learning than work based learning, basically you earn whilst you learn.
