What is Food Manufacturing?

Food manufacturing can vary depending on the company you work for. It could include breweries, dairies, confectioners, bakeries, soft drinks, fish, fresh produce, ice cream makers etc.

As an apprentice you will be following a comprehensive training programme which offers training in a variety of skills in the production of food.

What training will I receive?

The training covers the use of equipment, measuring, mixing, temperature control and packaging. You will need to work to high standards of hygiene and be conscious of quality as companies are working to very high standards.

If you are following an Apprenticeship programme, there will be no need to attend college as you will be assessed in the workplace by a qualified Training Officer.

Which qualifications will I achieve?

Depending on your abilities/employer's training opportunities, you will follow one of two routes:

Intermediate level Apprenticeship:

IPQ level 2 certificate in your chosen skill (Food Manufacturing Excellence, Food Industry Skills, Baking Industry Skills).

Functional Skills.

Employee Rights and Responsibilities.

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.


Advanced level Apprenticeship:

IPQ level 3 certificate in your chosen skill (Food Manufacturing Excellence, Food Industry Skills, Baking Industry Skills).

Functional Skills.

Employee Rights and Responsibilities.

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
